Choosing a wedding date!

It seems simple on the surface and for some couples it really is! But there are a number of factors to take in to account before choosing THE DATE!

1. Weddings cannot be planned overnight and although it’s tempting to rush down the aisle you need to ensure you have enough time to plan all your dream details. Many suppliers get booked up 6 months in advanced so it is important to do your research and get a rough idea of their availability before securing your wedding date – especially if you have always wanted a specific band or photographer!

2. The season: Just like suppliers venue’s get booked up 12 months in advanced sometimes even more! If you are flexible on the season then you are likely to have more options on dates but if you have your heart set on a wedding in the peak of summer (June-August) then you are likely going to have to book well in advanced.

3. Destination weddings: If your heart is set on a special destination abroad be sure to check the weather and seasons in that country as many places have opposing seasons to the UK. It is also important to keep in mind your guests budgets – European weddings are far more accessible to your guests than destinations like the Caribbean which involve more costly long-haul flights.

4. Choosing a day of the week can be tricky: Generally venues charge a premium for Friday – Sunday weddings with Monday – Thursday weddings seeing a reduction in venue costs. However it is important to remember the professions of your guests for example; a Monday wedding during term time if lots of your friends are teachers will probably mean they could not attend all day!

5. Other people’s wedding dates: If you have any friends which are also engaged it is worth checking in on their wedding plans as no one needs a Bride Wars moment in the months leading up to their wedding!

6. Honeymoon location: You wouldn’t think of it but your dream honeymoon destination can affect the time of year you get married if you want to head off straight after your wedding. For example the Maldives is best visited from November – May if you want to avoid any signs of the rainy season. As a result, you may need to consider a mini-moon after your June wedding and heading off a couple months later for the main event!
